Welcome!
The Body Language User Interface, or BLUI™ began as a collaboration between a computer scientist and an artist. The artist was interested in drawing and sculpting in a 3D virtual environment, while the computer scientist was interested in exploring virtual reality user interfaces. Since then, the BLUI team has grown to include Bill Brody e-mail, Glenn Chappell e-mail and Chris Hartman e-mail as well as several students who have contributed to the project over the years. The team has created a program called BLUIsculpt™ which allows users to create 3D art forms in virtual reality, as well as save those files for rapid prototyping.
Using BLUIsculpt is like sketching form into space, free from the bounds of gravity. Your tool is a three-button wand with a joystick. The joystick is used to scale the brush. Form is extruded using a wand, and can be erased by sucking it back into the wand. An intuitive point and click menu system allows you to change the sculpture’s texture, save files, change tools to smudge or blur, or clear your drawing space. A third button on the wand allows free movement of the sculpture in a “click and drag” type maneuver. The size and detail of the work created is only limited by the power and memory of the computer and associated graphics engine.
BLUIsculpt was recently completely re-written using VR Juggler. The immersive audio is based on OpenAL.
